MAC Angel Flame Quad!

Hey everybody!

Last week my MAC shipment came in, and it made me so excited! Two of the products I received are limited edition, from their latest collection and the other is is part of their Pro Longwear line.

Here I have Angel Flame, which is the limited edition quad. I really like the colors, especially the pink and orange because they go surprisingly well together. I'm a teeny bit disappointed, I'l admit, because the colors aren't as pigmented or vibrant as I would like, but it's still a great quad.

I also have a few swatches of the colors!

Chamomile is a satin finish, and is a great highlighting color. It's not completely white, it's somewhere between eggshell and ivory.

Feather Pink is also a satin finish, and a wonderful, bright, all-over lid color. It's a mid-tone light fuchsia color that leans towards purple.

Angel Flame, after which the quad is named, is a frost finish, thus it's very shimmery. The shimmer and sheen made it so difficult to take a close up of the swatch (my camera couldn't focus properly)! It has a lot of golden undertones, so it doesn't show up as orange as it looks. I think this warm-toned eyeshadow really helps off-set the brightness of Feather Pink.

And finally, we have Gravel which is a matte finish. It's a charcoal grey color with blue undertones, and it's fabulous for use as a liner.

ChicTravels: Egypt

Hey everybody!

While I didn't particularly enjoy living in Cyprus, one great advantage to living in the Mediterranean is having access to a wide variety of countries! During the couple of years I lived in Cyprus, I got to travel with my family all around Europe, and a few countries in Africa/Asia. So, during Blogtober, I'm going to talk about some of the places I visited and include pictures! Today's post is about Egypt.

My family and I went with some friends to Cairo, Egypt in October of 2008, I believe. I remember how hot it was there, even though it was already October (Dubai is hot in much the same way!) While in Egypt, we visited the pyramids at Giza, the Sphinx, and a local bazaar.

What I loved most about Egypt was definitely the pyramids and the history surrounding them! Seeing the pyramids in person definitely brought ancient history to life. I thought it was so cool being able to study the ancient Egyptian civilization, and then go to Egypt a few weeks later! Seeing something as monumental as the pyramids withstand thousands of years is mind boggling in itself.

The sphinx is also such a grand piece of history, it's hard to wrap your head around the notion of people creating such a statue thousands of years ago with limited inventions and supplies. Imagine how long it would take us to create a statue like that with modern day tools!

One downside, however, was seeing the poverty that the locals lived in. Everywhere, there were little kids selling trinkets and souvenirs to oblivious tourists. It made me sad to see such young kids be forced to become so street-smart, and grownup so soon.

This trip definitely changed me. It brought to life history that seemed so long ago, and I can honestly say that going to Egypt really helped spark my fascination with history. I also came to the realization that the human race as a whole has been on this earth for a relatively short amount of time, yet we've accomplished so much.

New Header!

Hey everybody!

I've figured out how to create a new header for my blog, that way it has pictures instead of just text. I'll definitely be updating the header according to season, especially holiday season! But for now, I have a picture of myself wearing an amazing yellow shirt from Forever 21, which says "I <3 Nerds" on the front!

Mall of the Emirates

Hey everybody!

Mall of the Emirates is by far one of my favorite malls here in Dubai. It's big without being too overwhelming, and since I've spent so much time in it, I'm familiar with the layout. It also has most of the stores I enjoy going into. (The Dubai Mall has all the stores I could possibly want to shop at, but it's so huge it's easy to get lost!)

One of the horses right inside the PF Chang's. This restaurant is one of my favorites at Mall of the Emirates. Another great restaurant would be Al Halabi, which serves Lebanese cuisine.

This is the Louis Vuitton. I love how they translated the name phonetically into Arabic! It's very elegant.

Just outside of the Crate and Barrel. It's also translated into Arabic!

Finally, the Michael Kors shop. I've never bought anything from here, but it looks so high-end and classy. Lots of the local Emirati ladies here carry designer purses, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Chanel, you name it!

I'll definitely have a part 2 to this! I'll put up another photo blog when I take more pictures. :)

July Birchbox!

Hi all! Here's an overview of what I received in this month's Bircbox! This month was special, because designer Cynthia Rowley worked with Birchbox to help hand-pick some of her favorite beauty and skincare products! I was so excited for this month because I love Cynthia Rowley! In fact, my whole stationary set is Cynthia Rowley, and I think she's amazing. :)

Even the packaging was dedicated to Cynthia Rowley!

 This is what my box looked like immediately after I opened it!

 I wasn't too thrilled with the philosophy Purity facial cleanser, because I've tried this two times before last year, and it broke me out badly both times.

 This is JOYA's FvsS Composition No.1 Parfum. It's a rollerball perfume, that smells of orange and jasmine. I definitely like it!

This is Redkin's shine flash, which is a spray that gives hair more shine and sheen. Redken is a very raved about company, so I'm looking forward to using the spray!

 This is Nuxe's Multi-Usage Dry oil. It fixes any dry spots on the skin, face, or even hair and is infused with aloe. It smells very similar to the JOYA perfume.

 This is KIND's Almond & Apricot Bar. It doesn't contain preservatives, is gluten free, and all around a great, wholesome snack to have in your purse. It's also very delicious, and I will definitely want to pick up a box of it soon!

[Not pictured separately] ybf beauty's eye brow pencil in universal taupe is a two in one eyebrow pencil and brush. It's perfect for traveling, and suitable for a wide range of hair and skin tones!
